How and when it came into existence?
It came into being at the initiative of a band of young Sannyasis and Brahmacharis dedicated to the welfare of the poorest of poor of this country with a view to realizing the Highest Truth in life through selfless service to suffering humanity irrespective of any distinction in their caste, creed, and religion. The Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission came into existence as a Registered Society on November 1, 1976, and started working on and from the 1st of January, 1977 with only 20 Tribal children on roll.
Where it is?
It is situated on the bank of the river Ganges at 7 Riverside Road, Barrackpore (Pin 700 120), 24 Parganas North, West Bengal, India. It can be reached from Kolkata by bus on the B.T. Road or by train from Sealdah Station on the Sealdah-Ranaghat Line and also by boat crossing the Ganga from Serampore Railway Station. By air it can be reached from Kolkata Air Port at Dum Dum.

1. Birth: He was born on 1st November, 1933, at Gobindapur village under Hizla Police Station in the district of Barishal in East Bengal (now Bangladesh).

i) He was admitted initially in a local “Pathasala”.
ii) Subsequently completed Class- I and II in the same village-based running school by a Muslim community.
